The Wedding Chapel That Comes to You

By Scott Roeben

Las Vegas, for better or worse, is known to many around the world as the place to get a quickie wedding.

Well, those quickie weddings just got even quicker, with the Las Vegas Wedding Wagon, the chapel that comes to you. To your hotel, and to just about any Las Vegas landmark, including the city’s famed “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.

The Las Vegas Wedding Wagon is the brainchild of two Las Vegas entrepreneurs and ordained ministers, Andy Gonzalez and James Cass.

The team’s new mobile wedding service provides Vegas visitors with the option to have their wedding at a variety of locations, at a very appealing price. Whereas some ceremonies can cost thousands of dollars, a Las Vegas Wedding Wagon wedding costs just $99. Couples can also opt for a renewal ceremony or commitment ceremony for that same low price.

Gonzalez and Cass have performed weddings in hotel rooms, at the Bellagio fountains and in front of the volcano at The Mirage, as well as other sites around The Strip.

One of the big draws for couples is a photo op with the team’s colorful vehicle, which tends to make weddings more festive because it draws a crowd.

“The van definitely attracts attention,” says Cass. “Especially when we pull up to a site at night. We open the doors and the two ‘service counters’ light up. That glow draws people in, and everybody wants to take a picture, even if they’re not the ones getting married. They just like the concept, and, of course, we get a lot of smiles driving down the road.”

That said, do people question whether a mobile wedding service trivializes marriage?

“In the same way people have re-defined relationships, this falls into that same way of thinking that says, ‘We’re going to do what we want.’ It’s a form of self-expression,” says Gonzalez. “When it comes down to the moment of truth, though, when you get halfway through those vows, people start tearing up, the guy’s hands start shaking and you realize they take getting married very seriously. This is forever. We’re here to honor what the couple wants, to make it as fun or serious as they’d like it to be.”

This only-in-Vegas form of self-expression begins with a visit to the Clark County Marriage Licensing Bureau. Those doing renewal or commitment ceremonies get to skip that part. The cost of a license is $60. Then, couples call to make an appointment with the Las Vegas Wedding Wagon, they show up, get hitched, and that’s about it. Gonzalez and Cass take care of all the paperwork with the county. One or the other even serves as a witness, if requested.

“This is the happiest day of people’s lives,” says Cass. “Most of the people attracted to our service are casual and laid back. No wedding dresses. They’re just out to have fun. We get to know them, and by the time we’re done, we feel like we’ve made new friends.”

Just don’t ask if the Wedding Wagon is also available for honeymoons! Although, in Las Vegas, nothing’s out of the realm of possibility.
