We caught up with Frank Alfter the producer of ILLUSIONS to ask him for the inside scoop on Las Vegas for our readers.
How long have you lived here and where did you move from?
I have been coming to Vegas for 25 years. I bought a house here three years ago, I am permanently living here since May 2011. I moved from Germany.
What do you find most unique about this town?
I have always loved this town, there is so much energy, so many fabulous shows, for a show producer this is the place to be! And don’t forget the sunshine 365 days a year…
Where do you eat in Vegas at night?
I love the Wolfgang Puck Restaurants in Vegas. Actually I am touring these restaurants. High quality European food and reasonable prices.
Best place to see the sexy people?
Just go to any of these crazy overpriced hip Nightclubs – or even better Dayclubs by the pools….
What Vegas Tradition haven’t you done yet?
I am not sure what a Vegas tradition is. Are there traditions? Everything is moving and developing here. In Germany we have the tradition that a man has to plant a tree once in his lifetime, I have not done that yet…
Best tip for tourists:
Book a good room with a strip view. Gamble with a limit. See one headliner and one production show. Have a fancy champagne brunch. Enjoy the sun at the pool with a delicious cocktail. Go shopping in the downtown outlets. See a show at the Smith Center, a very impressive new Opera house downtown. If you have time enough, go and take a day trip to Mount Charleston, you won’ t believe you are in Vegas.
I am a magician and producer, so without any question the Siegfried and Roy show at the Mirage. This was a fabulous mixture of magic and high class production show. Childhood memories, I saw their show at the old Frontier Hotel for the first time when I was 18. I also love the good old Jubilee show at Ballys, because this is vintage Vegas. Vegas as it used to be.
At the downtown Art festival and at the local art festivals.
Best place to be single and mingle?
Neighborhood bars to meet locals, fancy hotel lounges like Lilly’s at the Bellagio to meet tourists. Here you can have a conversation because the music is not too loud to talk.
Hidden treasure in Las Vegas is?
Town Square around Christmas. Fabulous place to stroll and enjoy the Christmas decorations. Fun for everybody and nice shops.
Time to plug, tell us about ILLUSIONS starring Jan Rouven:
Best magic show in town. Jan Rouven is a very talented, charismatic and likeable person, the audience loves him. His illusions are baffling and impressive. The dancers are great and everybody enjoys the show and has a lot of fun. This is perfect entertainment for the whole family.
