Tracy Hartley

We caught up with Tracy Hartley, Publisher of Today in Las Vegas, to ask her for some insider information on Las Vegas for our readers.

How long have you lived in Las Vegas and from where did you move?

I moved from Long Island, NY in 2002, so 10 years now.

What do you find most unique about this town?

Las Vegas is a melting pot of all different types of people, from international visitors, people who have transplanted themselves from another part of the country and a growing population of actual natives.

More and more I run in to people who were born in Las Vegas. That didn’t happen 10 years ago.

Craziest Vegas Story you care to share?

Um, I’ll pass! Discretion is key here!

Where do you eat in Vegas at night?

I’m a sushi fan, and my favorite places are Red Sushi at the Golden Nugget if I’m downtown or Kobe Sushi Bistro near our offices on Rainbow and 215.

Best place to see the sexy people?

Nightlubs anywhere on The Strip. Really, outside the clubs waiting to get in line you get a great look at everyone. I’m a big fan of people watching.

What Vegas Tradition haven’t you done yet?

I’ve never taken a picture in front of the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign on Las Vegas Boulevard. I keep waiting for friends who come to town so we can go together.

Best tip for tourists?

Come back to Las Vegas at least once a year. There are too many things to see in a few days or even a week. Las Vegas is constantly changing and adding great things to see. You’ll never be bored here.

What show have you seen in Las Vegas stands out in your memory and why?

Phantom at the Venetian, but it just closed. I saw Phantom on Broadway when I was a teenager, so being able to see it again as an adult was a real treat.

Where do you see the most art in Las Vegas?

Centaur Galleries at the Fashion Show Mall. Their exhibits are great and the staff is really warm and helpful.

Best place to be single and mingle?

Stoney’s Rockin’ Country. Dancing is a fantastic ice-breaker. Nothing is better to single ladies than a man who can dance! Their new location is opening at Town Square in October.

Hidden treasure in Las Vegas is?

Red Rock Canyon. They have a 13-mile scenic driving loop and it is really amazing to see. It’s also a great way to take a break from the hectic Strip and most people don’t know that it’s even there.

Time to plug, tell us about your business:

Today in Las Vegas is a magazine that has been in Las Vegas for over 30 years. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive guide for our readers. They should be able to carry the magazine around for their whole trip and know exactly what is going on in the city this week.

The new company President, Matt Phillips, has really focused hard on improving the magazine and taking our readers’ feedback on how to make it more useful as a guide to what’s going on in Las Vegas. We love feedback, so if you’re reading this, please feel free to drop us a line or “like” us on Facebook.
